The city of Daytona was officially established in 1876, while later in 1926 it became Daytona Beach on merging with Seabreeze. Since then Daytona Beach's most significant historical events have been motor sport related and consequently Daytona Beach does not have an abundance of historical landmarks, monuments or memorials.

The beach itself has been the scene of stock car racing since 1936 and in this sense it can be considered a landmark. Here are some of Daytona's main monuments and landmarks.

This building is the former childhood residence of Dr. Howard Thurman, who is credited with being the mentor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The house was built in 1899 and was Thurman's place of birth in 1900.

Host to the Daytona 500, one of the biggest racing events of the year, the Daytona International Speedway is one of the city's biggest landmarks alongside Daytona USA, which sits adjacent. Within easy driving distance of Daytona Beach, this historic landmark consists of the ruins of a once functioning sugar mill dating from the early 1800s up until its destruction during the war between the Seminole Indians and the United States. The 17-acre / 7-hectare site now contains a range of nature trails and camping areas.
